Hearing From God

A post based on the thoughts from my morning run back on December 6.

Four “steps” to hearing from God:

  1. Work to notice and appreciate when God does connect/speak/etc. with you. Stop and take note of it so that experience becomes part of your memory, conscious or not.
  2. Be open to God doing things in your life and “speaking” to you in all kinds of ways, including new ways you’re not used to. Don’t close yourself off saying “God can’t work in that way with me.”
  3. When you ask God to do something or tell you something, don’t start with the expectation that he will do/answer immediately. Expect him to answer you in his time, trusting that he will, in his time and in his way
  4. Work to believe that God does know what’s best for you and will do what’s best for you, in his way and in his time. Lay aside your belief that you know what’s best for yourself.

Summary: Look for him and trust him over time.

Trust the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your path straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6
