God Time Tapestry

During the winter I normally have my morning God time in my home office where I work during the day. I do have a nice couch in there, but it faces my desk with it’s computer and two monitors. Not the most spiritually inspiring thing to look at for an hour.

When it’s not winter I like to sit out on my deck. It overlooks my neighbor’s two and half acres that he maintains like a community park. Lots of large trees with a well maintained lawn. My bird feeders are nearby in my yard. A very relaxing and inspiring place for me.

So how do I get that summer-time feel in my winter-time office? With a tapestry! No, not the medieval wall hanging. This tapestry is a modern creation: a large piece of fabric with a photo or painting printed on it. The one I’m currently using is 5 feet wide by 4 feet high and has a photo of a young forest with lots of blue flowers carpeting the forest floor and a friendly looking path winding through the picture. I drape the tapestry over my computer monitors, which works pretty well.

The tapestry is a beautiful scene to gaze at while I spend time with God. It certainly reminds me of the beauty of God’s creation and the great times I’ve spent with God outdoors. It’s also a great tool to help visualize Jesus spending time with me. Picturing him walking next to me through life is much easier when I have an actual path through the forest that I can look at. It’s also a nice background against which to picture the people I’m praying for.

I bought my current tapestry on Amazon for $10. It looks like it’s not available right now, but there’s plenty more. I like forest tapestries but there’s all kinds of things out there. Etsy also has lots of them. I’ve purchased one there before as well.
